The Rail BlaCErs team of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Southern Leyte State University (PICE-SLSU) Chapter won as the grand champion of the Skills Olympics 2024: Digital Railway and Tunnel Design Competition during the awarding ceremony held at PHILCONSTRUCT Manila at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City, on November 9, 2024.
The team, composed of team leader Celso M. Lompot Jr., Jerome T. Batle, Melojean D. Flores, Michael M. Bacat, and Renzo A. Gantala, bested other finalists of participating schools, namely the National University-Baliwag, Technological University of the Philippines-Cavite, and Batangas State University-TNEU-Alangilan.
“Una sa tanan nagpasalamat mi labawng kahitas.an sa kani nga kadaogan. Nagpasalamat pd mi tanang misuporta sa design phase og methods phase.” said by the team leader Celso M. Lompot Jr. in an interview with The Campus Headliner, expressing his gratitude and appreciation.
[ First of all, we thank the Almighty God for this win. We also thank those who supported [us] during the design phase and method phase.]He added that the victory is not only a personal achievement for the team but also “reinforces SLSU’s ability to compete at national level.”
It is also remembered that the team Rail BlaCErs ranked first among the overall 12 teams from other universities, eliminating 8 of them during the Modeling Phase and elimination round of the competition and securing them a chance for the grand champion title which they successfully claimed.
Dr. Constantino G. Medillo Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Engr. Julius O. Paler, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, together with the Rail BlaCErs team and their adviser and coach, Engr. Raymart Bulagsac attended the awarding ceremony of the said event.
The competition is organized by the collaboration of Construction Manpower Development Foundation (CMDF), Philippine Constructors Association (PCA), and Bentley Education.
