Carlos Edriel Yulo delivered the Philippines’ first gold medal at the 20th Asian Games after ruling the men’s floor exercise on Thursday, September 24.
Yulo scored 14.666 points in the final at the Nagoya City General Gymnasium, edging Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi, who settled for silver with 14.600, while Japan’s Shoma Tsukiyama took bronze with 14.566. The victory marked Yulo’s first Asian Games gold medal, adding another major title to his career following his two Olympic gold medals at the 2024 Paris Games.
He entered the floor exercise final as the top qualifier after scoring 14.600 points in the qualification round. Although he encountered falls in some of the other apparatuses, he recovered to secure places in three event finals, keeping his medal campaign alive in Nagoya.
On the floor, Yulo was in control as he delivered a composed routine. He scored the highest in the final and finished ahead of Karimi, the 2022 Asian Games floor exercise champion.
The following day, Yulo added another gold to the Philippines’ tally after ruling the men’s vault final on Friday, September 25. He posted an average score of 14.599 from his two vaults, finishing ahead of Iran’s Mahdi Olfati with 14.533 and Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Ki with 14.116.
With two gold medals secured in two days, Yulo now closes his Asian Games campaign with the Philippines’ first two golds of the Games. From the floor to the vault, Yulo has turned Nagoya into another golden chapter in Philippine gymnastics.
