Southern Leyte State UniversityโMain Campus (SLSU-MC), in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), spearheaded a Student Leadersโ Forum on Peace Issues and Government Efforts in Attaining Resilient and Inclusive Development on September 17 at the Hotel Ballroom.
Participated by students from the different campuses of SLSU, particularly the Supreme Student Council (SSC) officers and the organization officers of each faculty, the activity aimed to raise awareness on peace and security concerns while presenting government initiatives to promote resilient and inclusive development.
Key discussions highlighted pressing national security and social concerns. CPL Gerry C. Luna, Public Affairs NCO of the 14th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, presented the recruitment process of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), particularly the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), National Democratic Front (NDF), and New Peopleโs Army (NPA).
A representative from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) tackled the current drug situation and underscored the significance of the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program (CBDRP) in addressing drug-related concerns at the grassroots level.
In addition, Vilma L. Grate, CBDRP and Mental Health Focal Officer, emphasized the importance of mental wellness, highlighting its role in achieving a safer, healthier, and more resilient community.
Overall, the forum served as a meaningful platform for student leaders to broaden their awareness of peace and security challenges while affirming their crucial role in fostering resilient, inclusive, and peaceful communities.
