Student leaders from across all campuses of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) came together for a two-day leadership activity held on August 4–5, 2025 at the SLSU Mini Theater, aiming to strengthen student governance and review the Constitution and By-Laws (CBL) of the Supreme Student Council (SSC).
The event was attended by representatives of the Supreme Student Council from different campuses and student organizations under the SSC umbrella.
Setting the tone for the event, Ms. Jessa Laarni Espinas shared her welcome remarks and statement of purpose, paving the way for Ms. Nenita Flores to warmly introduce the guest speaker.
A Leadership Talk was given by Mr. Friedreik E. Esquierdo, who encouraged student leaders to lead with integrity and responsibility. Mr. Sanny Sarcilla then discussed key points on the current CBL and offered insightful suggestions for improvement based on lessons learned from previous implementations.
The second day was marked by an inspirational message from SLSU President, Sir Jude Duarte, who shared his leadership experiences and challenged student leaders to view their roles through the lens of collaboration. “You are not watchdogs of the university. We should complement each other,” he emphasized, promoting a vision of partnership between students and the administration.
Also in attendance was Dr. Marie Khul C. Langub, Vice President for Student and Auxiliary Services, who supported the collaborative discussion on student affairs and leadership structures.
A presentation of the updated CBL followed, where resource speakers offered their feedback and recommendations to enhance clarity, inclusivity, and function.
The activity also featured an open forum, where participants, SAS officials, and resource speakers engaged in a productive exchange of concerns and suggestions, fostering a space of transparency and dialogue.
The event concluded with a closing message from Ms. Beverly Ann Isaga, who left the student leaders with a powerful reminder: “Leaders come with a purpose, not the title.”
The two-day gathering served not only as a venue to revisit foundational student governance documents but also as an opportunity to inspire and empower the next generation of SLSU leaders.
