SLSU celebrates World Teachers Day

Southern Leyte State University-Main Campus celebrated World Teachers Day today, October 4, at the Multi-Purpose Court (MPC). The event aimed to give value and recognition the dedication of the instructors, educators, mentors, and the like, in a single special day.

Dr. Annabelle M. Hufalar, Vice President for Student and Auxiliary Services, delivered the opening remarks, defining World Teachers’ Day as a day dedicated to recognizing the passion, dedication, and hard work of educators across the globe. She highlighted the profound impact teachers’ have on students, communities, and society as a whole, stating that teaching is not merely a job but a calling that shapes the minds and hearts of future generations.

“Education goes beyond the lessons in books, as it is a lifelong influence and a sacrifice,” Dr. Hufalar remarked.

Selected three students also gave their penned messages to the instructors of Southern Leyte State University-Main Campus, saying their words of gratitude for guiding the students well in their chosen career path and supporting the students in their passion.

Moreover, in his inspirational message, Dr. Jude A. Duarte, University President, encouraged the teaching staff of SLSU to reflect on the significant strides they have made together over the past 20 years at the university. They have embraced new teaching methodologies, explored innovative technologies, and fostered collaboration. “These achievements are testaments to your dedication and commitment to excellence,” Dr. Duarte said.

Dr. Duarte also urged teachers to continue pushing the boundaries of the profession and to explore new ways to empower students in critical thinking and problem-solving. Furthermore, he emphasized that through the power of education, teachers ignite minds, shape futures, and elevate Southern Leyte State University to greater heights.

During the event, some students showcased their various talents, including video presentations, to express their gratitude towards their mentors and instructors. In the highlight segment of the program, students offered flowers and gifts as tokens to show their gratitude and appreciation. Greetings of a happy teachers’ day filled the MPC.

The celebration emphasized SLSU’s commitment to honoring the contributions of the teaching personnel in general to the university’s development towards a sustainable institution.
