OSDS launches Project LIMPYO, spearheads coastal clean-up drive to fight plastic pollution

The Office of Student Development Services (OSDS) in Southern Leyte State University, together with the Supreme Student Council and student organizations, launched Project LIMPYO on May 3, 2023.

The initiative, which aims to eradicate plastic pollution in Sogod Bay, is in line with Goal 14 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The kick-off activity involved a coastal clean-up drive and other activities to protect marine life and increase the fish catch of local fishermen.

The project seeks to foster social responsibility, accountability, leadership, and volunteerism among student leaders.

OSDS Head Mr. Rey Comabig emphasized the importance of sustainable efforts to combat plastic waste, including awareness campaigns, environmental leadership training, and mangrove planting.

The project started with a discussion among student leaders on April 26, 2023, and the team collected five sacks of plastic waste during the kick-off event.
